Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spas Is Thrilled to Sponsor KYW Newsradio’s Women’s Achievement Awards
Wednesday night at the National Museum of American Jewish History, the Philadelphia community celebrated five remarkable women who were being honored as recipients of KYW Newsradio’s Women of Achievement. The award highlights the accomplishments and experiences of women who have taken charge of their careers, businesses and lives. Hand & Stone was a sponsor of the event with President and CEO, Todd Leff presenting for the second consecutive year at the award show.
“At Hand & Stone we provide opportunities for women to take charge of their lives by creating opportunities to own their own business – in fact in the Philadelphia area alone over half of our spas are owned or co-owned by women entrepreneurs. So we feel that sponsoring the Women’s Achievement Awards in our home market is a natural fit with the culture we have built,” said Leff.
The recipients of this year’s awards were Ann Griffiths, Medical Director of the Breast Health Program at Holy Redeemer Health System and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at University of Pennsylvania; Michele Lawrence, Area President and Senior Vice President at the Philadelphia Retail Market of Wells Fargo; Joanna Otero-Cruz, Executive Director at Concilio, a non-profit dedicated to developing, implementing and managing successful culturally appropriate health and social services; Barbara G. Shaiman, founder of Champions of Caring, a non-profit that has empowered over 10,000 youth in Philadelphia and South Africa to become leaders in service and active engaged citizens and Wendy Hamilton, General Manager of Philadelphia’s SugarHouse Casino, (a Hand & Stone member!) who was introduced during the show by Leff.
The keynote speaker for the event was co-owner of the Philadelphia Eagles and filmmaker, Christina Weiss Lurie. She capped off the event by discussing what it is like to be a woman in two male dominated industries. Of Hand & Stone and the other sponsors, she noted, “It is gratifying that companies like Hand & Stone demonstrate a commitment to women’s achievement not only through sponsoring an event like this but in the corporate culture they have created within their organizations.”
